SoleRebels is an Ethiopian shoe brand that surprises us with recycled materials, very colorful shoes, and originality from Africa. Their purpose was to establish themselves in Barcelona for the first time. Located in the Gracia neighborhood, we had a very small space and a limited budget.
The space was an old butcher shop with walls covered in bright white tiles. The cladding didn’t fit with the image we wanted to give to the store. So, we tore down the tiles but decided to leave the plaster blobs that held them in place, and on that textured surface, we painted the store walls a stone gray color, allowing part of the history of the space to remain visible.
In front of the walls, as a new layer, we proposed a series of recycled elements such as pallets, ropes, and wheels that matched the brand image and the idea we wanted to convey. With minimal resources, we opted for a sustainable and original design.
We decided to use natural materials with neutral colors so that the product would stand out. The colorful shoes should be the most prominent element, attracting passersby and future customers.
A U-shaped iron piece supports the layout and allows us to showcase the most prominent shoes. One side of the store is lined with pallets, which help increase exposure while adding warmth to the space. Ropes tied to the pallets rise to the ceiling and then drop down the other side of the store, holding various wheels that we also reused to promote the highlighted shoes.
Everything is held between one side and the other, creating a sustainable tension.

“In front of the walls, we added a layer of recycled elements such as pallets, ropes, and wheels, which not only reflected the brand’s identity but also turned a sustainable design into a creative and unique solution with minimal resources.”

“We opted for natural materials and neutral colors, allowing the colorful shoes to become the main focus, capturing the attention of those passing by and attracting future customers.”
