The client entrusted us with the ambitious renovation of their hotel, located on the seafront in La Costa Brava, in Roses. This project was developed in three phases, each focused on improving different areas of the hotel to offer an exceptional guest experience.
In the first phase, we undertook the renovation of Les Algues Chill & Drinks, an elegant tapas and drinks bar located on the first floor of the hotel, with stunning sea views. The main idea was to open the space as much as possible, transforming it into a covered outdoor area that can be enclosed with glass curtains. This design allows guests to enjoy panoramic views and the marine atmosphere throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions.
The second phase focused on the ground floor, where we addressed the renovation of the reception, the lounge bar, and the terrace. In this case, our goal was to create a seamless integration between the lounge bar and the terrace, designing spaces that could adapt to various uses, from private meetings to social events. The flexible design allows these spaces to be easily transformed according to needs, offering a dynamic and functional experience.
Finally, in the third phase, we reduced and renovated the existing dining room to make way for a new spa. This new addition provides a wellness and relaxation space, offering guests a luxurious retreat for rest and rejuvenation. With this last phase, we completed the hotel’s renovation, adding a touch of comfort and sophistication that enhances the overall experience in this spectacular coastal setting.

“We combined the nobility of oak wood with the craftsmanship of handmade clay pieces creating environments that radiate warmth and authenticity.”

“We designed elegant wicker elements that subtly separate spaces, adding warmth and natural texture to each setting.”

AN OASIS OF RELAXATION
We designed a spa that combines materials such as ceramic and stone in dark tones to create an atmosphere of serenity and rest. Indirect lighting highlights the natural textures of the stone, while a ceiling lighting system, mimicking a starry sky, adds a touch of magic and tranquility. Additionally, strategic lamps have been integrated to generate a sense of coziness, making the space a perfect refuge for rest and total disconnection.

PHASE 2: HALL, LOUNGE BAR AND TERRACE
In this second phase, we renovated the entrance hall with the reception, lounge bar, and terrace on the ground floor. The reception and hall were conceived as an open and welcoming space, where the design focuses on the integration of walls and furniture through panels, slats, and rectilinear volumes. Upon entering the hall, a dividing wall made of vertical oak slats separates the bar area and guides visitors to the reception, framing a spectacular sea view at the center.
The bar is designed to adapt to the hotel’s various activities, such as meetings, events, performances, and more, offering a flexible and versatile space. Its open layout, with mobile furniture, allows for different configurations depending on needs. Additionally, there are resting areas with sofas for reading and areas with tables for the bar. The last section before the facade is presented as a natural extension of the terrace. Here, the same IPE flooring is used, ideal for maximizing the use of the space during the summer. To achieve this, frameless and profile-free glass folding doors have been installed, allowing the facade to be fully opened and creating a semi-outdoor space that functions both as a bar and to extend the terrace, achieving a large covered porch effect.
The terrace establishes a direct visual connection with the beach and the sea. The existing stainless steel railing has been replaced with a new glass one, without posts, which accentuates this connection. Lastly, fixed planters have been installed, with various plants that help provide privacy from the pool and define different areas of the terrace.

“The last section integrates with the terrace through IPE flooring and folding glass doors creating a semi-outdoor space ideal for bar use in the summer.”
“The combination of enclosed and open-to-the-outside spaces is essential to offer both intimacy and connection with the surroundings.”

“We designed the reception furniture, including a bench made of the same oak as the vertical slats to unify materials. This piece is complemented by a white Corian volume that serves as an elegant countertop.”
PHASE 1: LES ALGUES CHILL & DRINKS
In the first phase, the project aimed to transform and revitalize the space on the first floor of the Hotel Maritim, giving it new life as a tapas and drinks bar. Located on the seafront of the promenade in Roses, a town with a rich fishing tradition, the main challenge was to imprint the space with a Mediterranean and contemporary character that harmoniously integrates with its surroundings.
Originally, the space had a small outdoor terrace, 3 meters wide, and a closed indoor area, divided by a line of sliding doors. The key to the design was removing this separation, treating it all as a single covered outdoor space. To achieve this, See Glass curtains, sliding and folding, were installed at the facade’s edge. These curtains visually and physically unify the interior with the exterior, creating a fluid and uninterrupted connection with the promenade, the beach, and the sea.
This solution offers the flexibility to enjoy a large covered outdoor space, which can be fully open during the warmer months or closed to protect against wind and bad weather.
Various areas were designed to offer more intimate and cozy environments. The first, next to the main bar, features several additional bars and a high counter facing the large east-facing window, with views of Roses, ideal for enjoying drinks. Then, the chillout area, equipped with two large U-shaped sofas facing the sea, invites relaxation. Finally, the remaining tables are distributed among planters that not only integrate the structural pillars but also zone the space, offering more privacy in such an open environment.

LIGHTING FOR EVERY MOMENT
The lighting was designed with a scene system that allows adjusting intensities and creating different atmospheres depending on the moment. This approach combines spotlights, linear LEDs, and pendant lamps, along with mobile and rotating lamps, specifically designed for the project. These lamps, mounted on painted copper tubes, are integrated into the bars, allowing versatile lighting that adapts to the movement of the tables.
