The project takes place in a small village in La Cerdanya, on the north slope with southern orientation. With a compact rural core of about 20 houses, the surroundings are characterized by extensive fields and meadows where agriculture and livestock farming are the predominant activities. The imposing views of the Sierra del Cadí make this place a true natural paradise.
Most of the village’s buildings are arranged around a “era” (a traditional threshing floor). Looking at the structure of the village, we see that the old constructions formed clusters of homes, barns, and former stables that surrounded these outdoor spaces, organizing their buildings in this way.
One of these clusters, consisting of a barn, a stable, a storage building, a small house, and a badiu (an open, covered space), belonged to our client, who wanted to rehabilitate the space and convert it into their own home with several guest pavilions.
The volumes of the existing buildings are preserved, with their facades and roofs being restored, and the entire interior space redistributed.
Inside the home, various guest rooms and living areas emerge, treating some walls by preserving the stone, cladding others with wood, using iron elements for support, and combining wooden floors with hydraulic tiles. The idea is to create spacious areas in a rural setting where the privileged views of the surroundings become an integral part of the interior.

“The Badiu is a large, open, covered space, restored by preserving the original trusses and using a traditional system of wood and tiles without any fastening material.”

“Original elements are recovered and highlighted to enhance the home, integrating its history into the contemporary design.”
“The natural aging of solid wood and stone adds character and authenticity creating spaces that evolve over time and tell their own story.”
