In this project, the goal was to intervene while respecting the current volumetry of this old village house, located in the hamlet of Noutigos, next to the river. Keeping its stone façade and replacing the original windows with chestnut wood ones, only two small new openings were made in the south wall, strategically located to optimize light and views. These new openings, made with fixed glass and a corten steel frame, elegantly contrast with the existing chestnut wood windows.

Part of the south façade had to be rendered due to ongoing dampness caused by the small stones that made it up. The large stones surrounding the windows were preserved, and the existing lines were followed to smooth almost the entire first floor and the attic.

The stone walls throughout the house are part of the interior finish, combined on the ground floor with areas finished in ochre mortar, creating a play of baseboards at different heights that cover the most deteriorated stones and adapt to the interior space distribution. The result is a balanced interior finish, dominated by the uniform color of the stones and the ochre mortar.

The ground floor is an open, continuous space that houses the kitchen, dining room, and living area. On the first floor, there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The new floor structures have been made with ceramic slabs painted with grey washes.

“The entrance garden, with large reclaimed old stone slabs, stone and wood benches, Albizias, Virginia creeper, and lavender, creates a simple yet welcoming entrance.”

“Respect for the stone and existing elements combined with a more open and airy layout, modern lighting, and contemporary furniture, has resulted in new spaces full of charm.”

“Originally used as a drying area it has been transformed into an open space filled with natural light thanks to skylights and a terrace with views of Finisterre and Carnota Bay.”
